Philip Newton, Operations Manager: “How I Progressed My Career In Lockdown”

We’re going to be bringing you some video blogs from various members of the Grantley Team who have got fantastic stories of progression and development but overall are huge advocates of a career in hospitality.
Today we caught up with our Operations Manager, Philip Newton. Philip has worked in hospitality for his entire career and has worked his way up in various businesses from pot wash, all the way to Operations Manager.
Philip joined the team at Grantley Hall in September 2020 as a Duty Manager after attending one of our Careers Days at the hotel. Unfortunately, Philip only had a few short months in the hotel before we were back into another national lockdown.
However, this provided a fantastic opportunity for Philip to understand and learn the operational side of the business in more detail – this included the behind the scenes running of the hotel such as health & safety, fire safety, reviewing standard operating procedures and much more. With the support of his HOD, Philip developed a thorough understanding of operations and was subsequently promoted to Operations Manager in June 2021 – just 9 months after he started. A well-deserved promotion after using the hotel downtime to further his knowledge and progress in his role.
