James Berry, Fletchers Demi Chef De Partie

Here at Grantley Hall, we’re celebrating International Chefs Day; a fantastic opportunity to say thank you to all our hard-working kitchen teams for creating memorable and magical moments for our guests through their delicious dishes.

We wanted to showcase to the next generation of chefs why forging a career in hospitality is something to be proud of. We sat down with James Berry, our Demi Chef de Partie who works in the kitchen for Fletchers Restaurant, to find out more about his journey.

James started here at Grantley Hall in September 2020 after the first lockdown as a Commis Chef. He quickly impressed the team and was promoted just 10 short months later in July 2021 to Demi Chef de Partie. James aspires to work in a Michelin Star restaurant in the future and understands the hard work he will have to continue to put in!

Fletchers Head Chef, Craig Atchinson, only had glowing things to say about James: “We promoted James because of his outstanding performance, willingness to learn and above all, helping others. He’s a lovely lad who gets on well with others and keeps the spirits up in the team. He can comfortably run the larder (starters) and garnish (vegetables) - he’s the fastest chef in town so quite often we have to tell him to slow down!”
